Hi,

I've just registered for VOSON and I'm having problems getting the NodeXL plugin working.

I'm using NoceXL v1.0.195 with Excel 2010 32bit on Windows 7 64bit. I've moved the VOSON dll file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Research\Microsoft NodeXL Excel Template\PlugIns (slightly different location because 64bit OS/32bit App)

When I open a new NodeXL template I can't see an option for Import>From Web 1.0/Blog Network (via VOSON) even after a system restart.

Any ideas as what might be wrong?

Many thanks,
Martin

    Hi,

Thanks for your question, and I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulties installing VOSON+NodeXL.

Unfortunately, I've had no experience with installing NodeXL on a 64 bit machine.

I'm thinking your best bet might be to ask this question on the NodeXL forum:

    http://nodexl.codeplex.com/workitem/list/basic

The NodeXL people are very keen to have third-party plugins for NodeXL (such as VOSON+NodeXL) and so I think someone on that list will be provide an answer to this question.

My initial feeling is that the VOSON+NodeXL plugin (32 bit) will not run on your 64 bit machine, but the NodeXL people will be able to give a definitive answer.

We are planning a new release of VOSON+NodeXL in first half of 2012, and maybe we need to think about this 32/64 bit issue.

Sorry I can't be of more help at this stage.

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for the reply. I followed your suggestion and found the answer on the NodeXL site. It's all explained here http://nodexl.codeplex.com/discussions/276351 but basically from version 1.0.1.192 of NodeXL the folder structure changed so the VOSON dll now has to go in:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Social Media Research Foundation\NodeXL Excel Template\PlugIns" for 64bit and

    "C:\Program Files\Social Media Research Foundation\NodeXL Excel Template\PlugIns". for 32bit

    Many thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting that you found a solution to this. Actually just a couple of days ago another user was having a problem with installing VOSON+NodeXL on 32 bit Windows and it was then I realised they had changed the directory structure (and I've updated the installation instructions at http://www.uberlink.com/software#voson+nodexl) but it wasn't until I saw your update to this thread that I realised this was the source of the problem you were having too (I mistakenly thought it was a 32/64 bit issue).

So thanks for letting me know you resolved it (and how).

    Rob
