Research into politically oriented conversations on Twitter at IN3

The research Seminar: "VOSON Lab Overview and Research Into Politically-Oriented Conversations on Twitter" was successfully presented by Dr. Rob Ackland at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. The seminar involved an overview of the VOSON Lab based at the Australian National University, an introduction to the VOSON software for hyperlink network construction and analysis, and the SocialMediaLab R package for collection of social media network and text data.

Two research projects using large-scale data on politically-oriented conversations on Twitter were also presented. The first is an analysis of the extent and nature of incivility in tweets addressed to Australian federal politicians, using data collected over 2015 and 2016. The second is a study of social bots on Twitter and involves a dataset collected during the first televised debate of the 2016 US presidential election.
